You can know you are going to Heaven!

God had the Bible written so that we could know that we can go to Heaven. But first you need to know what your condition is now.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; [Romans 3:23] 

Everyone in the world including you, your friends, and even the pastor of your church are all sinners, and no matter what we try to do we cannot get ourselves to Heaven.  Being a member of the church, being baptized, being a good person, feeding all of the poor in the world will not get us to heaven.  None of these actions removes our sin. We all fall short. 

Heaven is a perfect place.  A place where there is no sin.  This creates a problem for us as we are sinners.  Since we cannot get to Heaven because of our sin, the penalty for sin is eternity in Hell.  Everyone deserves to go to Hell.  There is nothing we can do for salvation.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. [Romans 6:23] 

I know you do not want to go to Hell.  God also does not want you to go to Hell.  So God decided to give you eternal life as a gift.  It is a gift paid for by Jesus’ death on the cross.  He paid for your punishment.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  [John 3:16]

The interesting thing about a gift is that it can be accepted or rejected.

Now how does one accept a gift?  Don’t you just take it when it is given to you?  How would you get a gift from God?  You just have to ask for it.  You talk to God by praying.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  [Romans 10:9-10] 

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. [Romans 10:13] 

Notice there is nothing else required except for asking God for the free gift of eternal life.  We need to believe that Jesus died on the cross.  It is not something that we say, but it is something you must believe in.

Would you like to ask for the free gift of eternal life now?  You could pray a prayer similar to:

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and I deserve to go to hell. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and today I want to accept His free gift of eternal life.  Thank you for allowing me to go to Heaven.  In Jesus name Amen.

Can you ever lose the gift of eternal life?

Another interesting thing about a gift, is that if it can be taken away, it is not a gift.  If God asked you to pay for it or be good for it, then it would not be a gift.  God gave us a gift not based on what we have done but what Jesus has done for us.

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. [I John 5:13]

The Bible was written so that you could know without a shadow of a doubt that you will be in Heaven, and not Hell.

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. [I John 5:12]
