On January 13, 1957, Brother Cotton Nelms formed the First Baptist Church of Temple Heights. There were sixty-four people present for the first Sunday morning preaching service, which was held in the Temple Crest Civic Center. The church expanded so rapidly that in just a few months the church had to move to a larger location. An auditorium was buility on property located at 8406 North 46th Street. In September 1958, Brother Nelms opened Temple Heights Christain School with sixty sutendents enrolled in the frist six grades.
